Meal Planning: How to Get Started

We’ve all been there: We come home tired after work with nothing ready to eat.

What do we do? Go for some takeaway or dial Domino’s.

However, this isn’t exactly the healthiest and most affordable way to live. Fortunately, more people are turning to meal planning as a better solution — and you should too!

Meal planning doesn’t only save you money. It also ensures you’re eating the healthiest and tastiest food each time. Here are some tips to get you started.

  1. Start off with one prepped meal first

Meal planning is going to be part of your routine from hereon out. If you force yourself to do it with every meal everyday, it can get overwhelming. The trick is to ease yourself into it. Start by prepping one meal first, like lunch. Do this until you become more comfortable in prepping breakfast, snack and dinner as well.

  1. Always have a list

Going to the grocery without a list is like going to war without weapons. The key to saving time and money in the store is to bring with you a specific list of items. This way, you could stick to what you need. Plus, you prevent yourself from buying unhealthy items along the way.

  1. Hit two birds with one stone

Part of effective meal planning is learning how to batch cooking tasks. For example, cut and chop everything you need first. Afterwards, know which ingredients can go in the oven at the same time. While you’re waiting, strain anything you need to or prep your containers. As you wait for the protein to rest when you take it out of the oven, you can do a little cleaning up.

Meal planning isn’t just about helping you plan your food. It also helps you manage your time better. Try it and you’ll never have to spend so much on takeaways ever again!
